Are Headphones Bad For Your Brain
So, youve been using your headphones a lot lately, and you noticed a pain in your ears. After a little bit of research, you found out that headphones can affect your brain too. Is that true? This is a common concern, so well be answering: Are headphones bad for your brain?
The brain is not directly affected by headphones. Unhealthy headphones habits can lead to hearing loss and ear infections. The damage on the ear can lead to nerve damage in the brain, although unlikely.
All of this can sound scary, and I understand why. Hopefully, with the following explanation, I can put your mind at ease.
Disclaimer: Im not an expert on the subject. Im just staying up to date with new discoveries. This post is a sum of research done on the subject.
We Do Know Cell Phones Can Cause Cancer In Rats
Cell phones emit non-ionizing radiation while communicating with cell towers. In 2018, after years of research, US scientists released the peer-reviewed results of a pair of federally-funded studies finding that this type of radiation could cause cancer in rats.
That was major news. It substantially changed the debate on whether cell phone use is a cancer risk. Up until that point, the federal government and device manufacturers operated on the assumption that cell phones cannot by their very nature cause cancer, because they emit non-ionizing radiation. Whereas ionizing radiationthe kind associated with, for example, x-rays, CT scans, and nuclear power plantsdefinitely causes cancer at high enough doses, non-ionizing radiation was believed to not emit enough energy to break chemical bonds. That meant it couldnt damage DNA, and therefore couldnt lead to the mutations that cause cancer.
But the pair of studies by the US National Toxicology Program found clear evidence that exposure to non-ionizing radiation caused heart tumors in male rats, and found some evidence that it caused tumors in the brains of male rats.
Ronald Melnick, the NTP senior toxicologist who designed the studies in the early 2000s said at the time of publication that the reports made it unlikely any future study could conclude with certainty that there is no risk to humans from cell phone use.
Do Airpods Emit Emf Radiation
The Apple AirPod is one of the most connected devices you can put in your ear, as it connects via Bluetooth, WiFi, and cellular.
One of the dangers associated with earbuds tech like the Apple AirPods is that it is continuously close to the brain and in direct contact with your skin.
As we know, research made relating to this subject shows that closeness to the source of EMF radiation is tremendously vital. By wearing the Apple AirPods, we open ourselves to the maximum amount of radiation this device emits.

Location Of The Bluetooth Transmitter & Why It Matters
All EMF radiation from electronics can be harmful, but some mobile devices are riskier than others. A good rule of thumb is that the closer you are, the more dangerous electronics become. AirPods, and their placement in the ear canal, win the title for being the closest electronic device to a very valuable and sensitive organ, your brain.
Dr. Andrew Goldsworthy, a retired lecturer from the Imperial College of London, one of the top three UK universities after Oxford and Cambridge, documented how the short wavelengths and quick rise-and-fall times of pulsing among Bluetooth headsets can damage human cells. Thus, exposure to high-frequency EMFs from a high-powered Bluetooth headset, such as AirPods, can cause permanent DNA damage and increase the risk of cancer.
Wireless AirPods rest snugly in the ear, therefore positioning the source of radiation emissions, the Bluetooth transmitter, directly in the ear canal in both ears.
Standard Bluetooth headphones, on the other hand, have a wire running from one ear canal to the other ear canal with one transmitter near the nape of the neck.
So, although all Bluetooth headphones pose harm after long periods of use, the location of AirPods transmitters makes them the most harmful headphone option.
Do I Really Need Airpods Pro
Not only will they sound significantly better than the original ones, but they offer more in the way of features and useful accessories too. Sure, theyre $50 more than the latest AirPods with wireless charging, but you get a lot for that extra cash. If youre an Android user, you should skip the AirPods Pro.

What Do Airpods Do To Your Brain
Many people are wondering what AirPods do to your brain.
They dont understand why the older generation never embraced the technologically advanced headphones that are now available in the market.
The reason for this is because they feel that these headphones can work wonders in enhancing the brain power of a person.
Now, if you happen to be one of those people who are asking this question, then you better stop asking it.
For many people who are asking this question, they are probably still not aware of the benefits that these headphones offer.
The good thing about AirPods is that they are extremely beneficial to the brain. The reason behind this is because they are capable of stimulating the brain to work for you.
This is what these headphones are capable of doing. They have the ability to stimulate the brain. To achieve this, you will need to put them in the ears of your children.
When they wear them for a few minutes, the brain cells of their brain is going to be stimulated.
Now, when we talk about the brain, we are talking about the brain that is connected to our own life.
That is why when we talk about the brains ability to work for us, it means that we are able to improve our lives by improving our brains.
As you can guess, we cannot get into how much these headphones can help the brain of an adult.
The reason for this is because there are different kinds of headphones for different ages.
Is Wearing Airpods All Day A Bad Idea
Youve been wearing your AirPods for far too long before removing them. If you use AirPods for more than 90 minutes at a time, you may experience painful pain. The cartilage in your ears isnt designed to hold something within for long periods of time. Using earbuds for an extended period of time can cause your ears to suffer.

Can Wireless Earbuds Damage Your Brain
A group of 250 scientists is challenging the safety of wireless earbuds. Joel Moskowitz, a researcher at the University of California, says the close proximity of AirPods to the brain and inner ear may raise cancer risks and there’s not enough research nor sufficient regulation in place to keep users safe. Dr Moskowitz, says the World Health Organisation is relying on research paid for by the manufacturers of the earbuds, to back claims they are safe to use. But Professor Ken Karipidis is an expert in the field of non-ionising radiation protection. He explains why he believes earbuds are safe to use.

Bluetooth Headphones And Cancer
It may be hard to remember life before everyone using Bluetooth headphones was common, but they are a relatively new invention. Apple Airports, Jabra Elite Sport, and Braga Dash Bluetooth headphones were only introduced into the market in 2016.
Though the rumors that Bluetooth devices cause cancer spread like wildfire, the research is decidedly against that hypothesis. There is currently no evidence that Bluetooth devices increase the risk of developing cancer.
A study conducted by the California Department of Health in 2019 showed that the amount of radiation released by Bluetooth devices is 10 to 400 times lowerthan the amount of radiation released by cell phones.
The 2011 INTERPHONE study evaluated cell phone use among 5,000 people with brain tumors and concluded that mobile phone use does not cause brain tumors in adults.
In the UK, a large study involving 800,000 women came to a similar conclusion: the study found mobile phone use is not associated with the increased incidence of brain cancers. The National Cancer Institute has clearly stated that there is no evidence that radiofrequency radiation can cause cancer.
There remains some uncertainty in the scientific community. A 2018 study from the National Institute of Environmental Health Services concluded that high levels of radio-frequency radiation from 2G and 3G cell phones increased the risk of cancer in male rats.
Do Airpods Cause Health Problems
Bluetooth earbuds produce less radiation and cell phones. Some health experts warn that more research is needed to examine the long-term effects of the Year bus because of their proximity to the brain.
If you want to be safe then you must minimise the use of Bluetooth earbuds and avoid holding your cell phone to your ear for a longer period. If you use the speakerphone function on your phone for calls and the speakers for music then it will help you minimize your electromagnetic exposure.
Scientists have warned that potential health risks of chronic exposure include genetic analysis, neurological disorders, cancer, learning and memory deficits, and reproductive issues.
Also substantial research has been done on the health risk associated with EMS and there has been very little on the safety of long-term radiation exposure from wireless or Bluetooth headphones.
Emissions are not the only factor when it comes to breaking down the impact of this type of radiation. The specific absorption rate or the amount of radio frequency absorbed by the human body from a device, also helps to determine how much radiation actually seeps into our bodies.
Currently we dont know the exact health risk associated with chronic use of in ear wireless earbuds, scientists are beginning to make out the potential harm they may cause.

Do Apple Airpods Cause Cancer
This is actually a really difficult question to answer because there are so many variables and so many unknowns. However, lets talk for a minute about a few things that we do know.
Also, if you want to dive much deeper into this topic specifically, I do have a full guide talking about whether Bluetooth headphones could cause cancer that Id encourage you to check out.
We dont have specific research on AirPods and whether they cause cancer, but we do have some research and knowledge that the same kind of RF radiation that is emitted from wireless technology can lead to an increased risk of certain kinds of cancer.
For example, if youve read any of my articles on cellphone radiation than youll know that long-term use has been shown to increase your risk of developing certain brain cancers like glioma.
Basically, high levels of radiofrequency radiation can lead to negative health effects.
In fact, the World Health Organizations International Agency for Research on Cancer classified radiofrequency EMF radiation as possibly carcinogenic to humans based specifically on the increased risk for brain tumors such as glioma that I mentioned above.
When talking about the possible risk of cancer from wireless earbuds youll probably also come across statements from Jerry Phillips who is a professor of biochemistry at the University of Colorado Springs.
In talking about AirPods, he said the following:

Effects Of Emfs On The Brain
In spite of the perception that EMFs are a fringe new-age health topic, the effects of EMFs on the body and brain have actually been quite well studied. Some quick searching on PubMed will yield literally thousands of studies investigating the impacts of EMFs on various aspects of biological and psychological function.
Various types of EMFs have been correlated with DNA damage, suppressed immune function, increased incidence of cancer, decreased fertility, and autism .
The spectrum of EMFs is actually quite broad and a lot of these arent relevant to this informal study. For example, radio-frequency EMFs emitted by cell phones have been particularly well studied and are correlated with some of the most troubling health effects, but arent emitted by headphones in levels significant enough to consider here.
For this article, Ive focused on the specific type of EMF most intensely emitted by bluetooth headphones, referred to as low-frequency EMFs .
There are many hundreds of studies showing the effects of LF-EMFs on hormone function, cellular metabolism, DNA transcription and other elements of body health.
To keep the information here as relevant as possible to this informal study, Ill focus only on research showing the effects on the brain by the LF-EMFs specifically measured by the EMF meter:
Does Ps5 Support Bluetooth Headphones
Thats because the PlayStation 5 doesnt support Bluetooth audio. This allows you to still use your gaming headset via Bluetooth. You purchase a Bluetooth USB adapter separately and connect it to a USB port on the PS5. When you connect the headset to the console via Bluetooth, the sound will come from your headset.
Precautions That Can Lower Radiofrequency Radiation Exposure
Some experts are wary of the effects of placing wireless and Bluetooth devices on the body. While these gadgets emit less radiation than cell phones do, emissions are only one small part of the brain health equation. There is absorption to consider as well.
As noted, some studies hypothesize that there could be a connection between RF radiation emitting devices and brain cancer. These emissions could seep into your body through proximity or contact.
Joel M. Moskowitz, a wireless radiation researcher and Berkeleys Center for Family and Community Health director, says that when on your head, Bluetooth devices only expose you to a half or a third of the radiation emitted by cell phones.
So here are some precautions you should take when using these devices:
- Using the speakerphone feature on your devices when listening to your favorite podcasts or music.
- Being careful about exposing young children in their nervous development stage to radiation. While there are no studies that associate non-ionizing radiation exposure to the brain tumors in kids, children are naturally more sensitive and vulnerable to its effects.
- Their heads are also smaller, so they have a higher proportional exposure to RFM radiation than adults do.

What Can We Do About It
The first rule is not to listen to music at high volume levels for long periods of time. Some songs might sound better played loudly, but you shouldnt do that if you want to protect your hearing. Its especially important to educate children because loud sounds can be even more devastating for their sensitive ears.
If youre on a long commute and plan to use your AirPods to listen to audiobook along the way, at least make sure to take a break every hour or so. Sit in silence for a few minutes and give your ears a break.
Another good piece of advice is to clean your AirPods regularly to avoid other health problems. You can clean them with a dry cloth, or add a little bit of water if needed. Use a small brush to clean meshes, but be careful not to use anything sharp. Make sure to take good care of your AirPods in order to prevent germs and bacteria.
Disposable Product Disposable Labor
The 18-month lifespan of AirPods reflect the reality of their production AirPods are built by disposable labor.
Disposable labor refers to the workers who temporarily meet the production demand for a product or service, but when this product or service is no longer in need, these people are no longer in need either. Much like the product itself, they are replaceable. Needless to say, there is a human cost involved in extracting and refining the materials to make AirPods.
According to Business Insider, Foxconn is a Chinese company that assembles an estimated half of all Apple products. As of May 2018, about 350,000 people worked in the facilities for salaries as low as $300 per month, or about $10 a day. For years, Apple sourced Cobalt and Tantalum from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and only after lengthy accounts of child labor, staff grievances and worker deaths did Apple stop sourcing these materials from small mines in the Congo.
As workers suffer at the hands of AirPod creation, consumers are next in line to experience the prospective consequences of this product, too, from the moment they place these pods into their ear canals.
