This ability is rarely found in young children and even less in adults. It is believed that if you are not born with it you can not develop.
It is possible that it can not be developed at such a high level of detail as the known cases, but if at a much lower level it is going to make a big difference to the vast majority of people.
Therefore, in my opinion if it can develop, not to a degree as high as the people who are born with it but if one is already a breakthrough. That is, you may not see in your mind the image itself, as children can. But you will be able to remember objects of images and it is possible that with the neural development you will be better able to remember details.

Something similar is the Hipertimesia Or superior autobiographical memory. It is a syndrome / phenomenon that makes the person remember everything he has done during a day with almost perfect accuracy. They are even able to remember what they did on a particular day of years ago.
Of course, if you are not born with that condition, you can not acquire it. What you can develop is memory to some degree, but you will have to do it consciously and with effort.
Anyway, people who have it feel overwhelmed because they have a continuous stream of memories, so it is best that you can evoke memories at will, even if it involves effort and energy expenditure.

Some people use the terms photographic memory and eidetic memory interchangeably, but these two phenomena are different. People who believe they have photographic memories say they can recall visuals for very long periods of time, or permanently, without alterations in detail.
Theres little scientific consensus on either eidetic memory or photographic memory. Both are hard phenomena to test conclusively.

I want you to not only imagine seeing the painting, but the brush, the canvas, and all the colors.
As you imagine this picture of yourself painting a picture, add the smells, the feeling of the brush in your hand and the sensation of the air in the room.
Kind of tricky, right?
But just ask yourself:
What is it that you see in your minds eye ?
Do you actually need to see anything in order to experience a vivid impression?
Does that impression actually need to be vivid in order to be useful?
How about the other sensations? Isnt that much more powerful than seeing on its own?

Create Novel Unique Outrageous And Connected Visualizations
Across my courses, one of the most important things I teach is the idea of making your visualizations memorable. After all, if you begin visualizing everything you want to remember, youre going to have thousands of pictures floating around in your mind. How do you keep them all straight and remember them all? By making them unique.
Most memory athletes agree that the best way to do this is to make them bizarre. Violent, sexual, or just strange imagery tends to work particularly well. Dont worry. These visualizations are just for you, so you can feel free to make them as weird as you want.
While youre at it, try to make these visualizations connect to things you already know. Our brains rank information based on how well it relates to the things we already know and care about. By using images of people, places, or things we already know in our visualizations, we can then increase our likelihood of remembering them. Improve Your Memory By Visualizing What You Want To Remember
Now that we know why visual memory is superior, its time to put this knowledge to good use. Many students are surprised to find out that my SuperLearner course is almost 70% about improving your memory. Long before diving into speed reading, brain exercises, or brain health, we build a solid foundation by developing short-term memory and the ability to recall. This all starts with improving the way you memorize new information.
Heres the idea. For anything you want to remember, imprint in your minds eye a vivid picture describing that piece of information. At first, this will be tricky. You wont have the creativity or the techniques to convert many types of information to pictures. Start small. Memorize your grocery list by picturing each of the items. We can all visualize apples, milk, and cereal, right? Now imprint in your minds eye exactly how that picture looks. What color? What shape? What size?
Over time, you will develop this skill to the point that youll be able to do it without thinking. I remember a friend telling me he was learning Portuguese, and a visual of a map of Brazil popped into my head.
But in order for these mind photos to be memorable, theyre going to have to be unique and creative, which leads me to my third tip.
