Your mind is closely linked to your body. What your mind achieves, slowly but surely, gets reflected in your body too. It is a natural progression in human growth, as your brain connects to your body through millions & billions of neurons.

So, when your mind opens up, it needs to be stretched, showcased, and get reflected in your body too. Your body is like an extension of your mind. So, you can start using your whole body as your mind. You can think through your body.

Then, you need to strengthen this brain-body by exercising regularly. The stronger your body gets, the sharper your mind becomes and vice-versa. It helps in bolstering your brains strength and expanding its reach even further. Its another big step in your journey towards unfolding how to unlock 100 percent of your brain and its intelligence and carrying out the same to perfection.

So, do physical exercises regularly to strengthen your bodys different parts. Go for walking, jogging, running, cycling, swimming, etc. You can also hit the gym and work out according to your capability and needs. You can practice yoga and its many postures to build a strong, resilient, and agile body, which will make your brain stronger.

We have the ability to increase our brain capacity and more fully realize our potential as human beings in the process.


In a recent interview I conducted with my friend and mentor Dr. Robert Cooper, he shared something that really hit home with me: “We live in a tiny corner of our possibility as human beings,” he told me. “The good news is, the brain doesn’t get it. The brain tends to only compare itself to the best of what’s common, not the best of what’s possible.”

My first thought was that this is a bit tragic — imagine all that we could accomplish as a species if we actually realized our potential. Think of all the great discoveries and human achievements that remain to be unlocked simply because we don’t fully utilize the amazing brains we’ve been given.

But this feeling soon gave way to excitement and optimism. Because our ability to change and step up our game is completely within our control.

Cooper is a neuroscientist, bestselling author and executive coach whose teachings have impacted my life probably more than anyone else’s. He takes incredibly complex, nuanced neuroscience principles and distills them into dead-simple, actionable advice.

In our conversation, he went in depth about “upwiring” — the idea that we can hack our brains and remake them in a directed, purposeful way, and more fully realize our potential as human beings in the process.

Facing Challenges With Courage

I have invited an imaginary special guest, a young man called Alex Honnold. Perhaps youve already heard of Alex Honnold, and if not, I do recommend to have a look into who Alex is, and especially in what he has achieved.

A few years ago, he climbed El Capitan, a big rock in Yosemite National Park that is about 900 meters high, or in other words, 3,000 feet from base to summit. Alex Honnold is known for his free solo climbing. This means he climbs without any source of protection, and one of his greatest achievements is climbing El Capitan without any form of security in about less than four hours.

Well, Im not sure if you would call these a courageous act. Some people would call it a total crazy act, but I would like to use this example to you to tell you a bit more about what courage means and how we can address it from a neuroscientific perspective, and especially how we can nurture our own level of courage.

If it comes to climbing, Id like to give a personal example. I have two children, two daughters, and my youngest one, she has absolutely no fear of heights, and my older one, shes like me, she has a very strong fear of heights. Every time we go climbing, my oldest daughter would look at my younger daughter climbing up to the top, and then she would look at me and say, My younger sister, shes so brave for climbing all the way to the top.

Understanding How To Unlock Your Brain To Have A Better Memory

First of all, its important to ask a question: 10% of what?

Using a technique called functional magnetic resonance imaging, neuroscientists can put someone in a scanner and see which parts of the brain are activated when they do or think about something.

A simple action, such as closing and opening the fist of the hand or saying a few words requires the activity of much more than a tenth of the brain. Even when nothing is supposed to be being done, the brain is doing a lot, whether its controlling functions like breathing and heartbeat, or remembering things to do.

Assumptions About Others

Your Brain Is An Energy Hog

Your brain is incredibly hungry and requires a huge amount of energy just to keep running. The human adult brain makes up about only 2% of the bodys mass yet uses 20% of energy intake. In children, the brain eats up 50% of daily glucose intake, and infants brains take a whopping 60%.

Brain sizes scale in proportion to body size with larger animals having larger brains, but on a per weight basis, humans pack in more neurons than any other species. This density is what makes us so smart. It takes an awful lot of fuel to power that complex brain, and theres a trade-off between body size and a sustainable number of neurons. According to theTed-Ed Animation,A 25-kilogram ape has to eat 8 hours a day to uphold a brain with 53 billion neurons.

The invention of cooking food gave humans the means to power their growing brains because our guts could more easily absorb energy from cooked food.

Our brains also adapted by learning to become incredibly energy efficient. At any one time, only a small proportion of brain cells are signaling, a process known as sparse coding, allowing the brain to use the least amount of energy while transferring the most information. The need to conserve energy resources is the reason that most brain processes happen below conscious awareness and that multitasking just doesnt work. Theres not enough energy available to the brain to focus on more than one thing at a time.

We Can Face Our Fears & Anxiety

We have this courage act, which means we can face our own fears, we can face our own anxiety. How can we do that?

One way is with regular mindfulness meditation practice. When we regularly practice mindfulness meditation, the amygdala that causes those fears and feelings of insecurity will calm down. And the second tip is: if we are doing a breathing exercise, just make sure we fully breathe out. In the heat of the moment, when you are leading a difficult conversation, when you have to perform on stage, just try to notice your breathing out and make sure you fully breathe out.

Alex Honnold who climbed El Capitan without any form of security, his brain was investigated and reseachers noticed that his amygdala absolutely did not show any reaction in certain situations where other people would have reacted with amygdala activation or with a fear reaction. If you make the connection with courage is Alex Honnold courageous or not? Well, I believe he is courageous for undertaking such an act, and again, some people would call that crazy, but given the results of the brain scans, Alex Honnold does not experience the strong amygdala activation that other people would experience when climbing. This, of course also allows him to access his full potential to climb. I must honestly tell you that Im quite sure that I had more amygdala activation watching Alex Honnold climb compared to the amount of amygdala activation that he was experiencing.

Einstein was a normal human just like rest of us. But he knew the secrets to unlock the full potential of his brain.

An American university in mid 90s did some research on human brain and tracked its activity through EEG. Two groups of the same age were given two separate tasks. One group was told to draw a masterpiece and the other group was simply told to doodle anything.

Yeah I like the way that you call that out as an action. There was another thing that you said that I thought was really powerful, about how insights themselves are essentially inert, they dont do anything. What then do we do with an insight? How do we take a breakthrough moment and make sure that its not just a breakthrough moment?

Like, I guarantee people watching right now are having like a hundred aha moments. For sure, that was definitely the case for me as I was researching you, and when you said that, and I was like, and thats the danger, that you have the aha and then nothing.

Yeah and it is a danger because then people will shrink back into mediocrity and theyll use the insight to excuse them from taking a leap. Theyll say, yeah, you know I have a chemical imbalance in my brain. Yeah my father was really overbearing. He was a perfectionist, thats why I am the way I am. You know people, they come up with stuff to excuse themselves. The insight is actually giving them permission to stay limited.

And its an amazing idea because theyll say to you that they really want to get over their anxiety. But okay, lets take your ex-husband. Lets put him in a straitjacket. Lets duct tape them and shoot them to the moon. Now what?

That means that they got a little bit of their life back. If it lengthened by ten percent, they got ten percent of their life back.

Then my final question whats the impact that you want to have on the world?

Break Out Of Your Daily Routine

Studies have found that frequently changing your daily routine, even in the slightest way, can help energize your brain and improve your efficiency and productivity when you study. Take a different route to and from university, try shopping somewhere new, or even challenge yourself by closing your eyes when unlocking the door. Aim to be surprised at least once every day.

Understand What It’s For

This might be the more abstract side of the strategy, but a reminder of what you want achieve through upwiring will do wonders.

In other words, you have to remember your purpose.

In a culture in which social media has artificially elevated the opinions of others, and where so many of us — including business leaders — judge their self-worth against these opinions, it’s important to remember that life isn’t a popularity contest. Life is about something much greater.

Cooper reminds us: “The bigger game beneath all of that is this drive to create the most valuable, enduring imprint on the world that lives after you’re gone.”

It’s so simple, yet so powerful. Sure, you can play the game of likes, page views and retweets, but if you’re not making a real, tangible impact on the world, what is at all worth? Keeping this in mind will serve you will both in life and in business.
