Its More Common In Twins
Identical twins are sometimes mirror images of each otherone twin has a mole on her right cheek and the other has a mole in the same spot on her left cheek, for instance. It was once believed that twins genetic makeup should be mirrored as welltherefore, one twin should be left-handed and the other should be right.
Neither of these is true, but left-handedness is about twice as common in twins than in the general population. A 1996 Belgian study found that about 21% of twins, both fraternal and identical, are left-handed.
Characteristics Of Left Brain Dominant Students
- M.Ed., Education Administration, University of Georgia
- B.A., History, Armstrong State University
While there are differences of opinion when it comes to brain hemisphere dominance, one thing seems clear: there are some students who are more comfortable with logic and reasoning than they are with creativity and intuition. These preferences are characteristic of people who are sometimes called left brain dominant.
Are you very organized? Do you believe that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things?;Do you enjoy math homework more than English homework? If so, you may be left-brain dominant.
Brain Lateralisation And Handedness
It is true, however, that the brains right hemisphere controls the left side of the body, and the left hemisphere the right side and that the hemispheres do actually have specialities. For example, language is usually processed a little bit more within the left hemisphere, and recognition of faces a little bit more within the right hemisphere. This idea that each hemisphere is specialised for some skills is known as brain lateralisation. However, the halves do not work in isolation, as a thick band of nerve fibres called the corpus callosum connects the two sides.
Interestingly, there are some known differences in these specialities between right-handers and left-handers. For example, it is often cited that around 95% of right-handers are left hemisphere dominant. This is not the same as the left brain claim above, it actually refers to the early finding that most right-handers depend more on the left hemisphere for speech and language. It was assumed that the opposite would be true for lefties. But this is not the case. In fact, 70% of left-handers also process language more in the left hemisphere. Why this number is lower, rather than reversed, is as yet unknown.

Bonus Advice: Integrate The 4 Building Blocks Of Productivity
Just as important to productivity planners as the tool are the principles that we create inside of. There are 4 building blocks of productivity, that when embraced, accelerate your energy and results.
The four building blocks of productivity are desire, strategy, focus and rhythm. When you get these right, having a productivity planner or journal provides the structure to keep you on track.
Block #1: Desire
Somehow in the pursuit of all our goals, we accumulate ideas and To-Dos were not actually passionate about and dont really want to pursue. They sneak their way in and steal our focus from the things that really matter.
Underneath powerful productivity is desire. Not many little desires, but the overarching mother of desires. The desire you feel in your gut, the desire that comes from your soul, not your logic, is what you need to tap into if you want to level up your productivity.
A productivity planner is just a distraction if youre not clear on what its all for. With desire, however, your productivity planner provides the guide rails to accomplish your intentions.
Block #2: Strategy
Once youre clear on your overarching desire, you need to organize your steps to get there. Lets call this strategy. Strategy is like assembling a jigsaw puzzle. You must first turn over all the pieces to see patterns, colors, connections and find borders.
In the best selling book, The One Thing, the focusing question they teach is:
Block #3: Focus
Block #4: Rhythm
What Is The Personality Of A Left
Left-brained people prefer cold-hard facts and real-life data rather than emotions and imagination. Their systematic and stable personalities make them good candidates as reliable team leaders. They often pace themselves and do not overreact quickly.
When it comes to daily life, left-brain personalities approach it the same way they approach their professional or academic obligations. They strive to be as clear and direct as possible. Left-brain people like order and organize their daily plans as neatly and systematically as possible.
They remember events chronologically, usually in great detail, and approach every potential risk with necessary caution. When facing problems, they immediately try to find the most efficient solutions, and they are not easily distracted by their emotions.
Dont Settle For Mediocre
Life can be hard, but your personal growth doesnt have to be. Discover the journey to self-mastery.
An example of a left-brained is when they watch a movie, they analyze it from a technical point of view. They evaluate the quality of a script as well as how good or bad the directing is.

Mixing Fact With Fiction
Its true each hemisphere of the brain controls different functions, but this fact doesnt relate to personality. The misleading idea of left vs. right brained people originates from science and has become fictionalized over time.
Take TheStrange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, for example. Robert Louis Stevensons fictional characters represented the duality of human nature and explored the idea of a logical left brain competing with an emotional right brain .
People love to learn about their own psychology, and they crave definitive answers. We love classification schemes like astrology, Myers-Briggs and endless personality quizzes, even though, according to Inc., calling yourself left brained or right brained is totally meaningless.
It Doesnt Affect Your General Health
Scientists long suspected that being left-handed was somehow related to immune function, and that it may be a risk factor for an autoimmune disorder. Research has not been able to back up most of these claims, says Grimshaw, and that theory has been largely debunked. But one autoimmune condition handedness does seem to be associated with is inflammatory bowel disease. A 2001 British study found that lefties are twice as likely to suffer from bowel problems such as Crohns disease and ulcerative colitis than righties.

Everything You Need To Know About Right Brain Characteristics
Your brain is divided into the left cerebral hemisphere and the right cerebral hemisphere. Find out more about common right-brain characteristics.
The brain is one of the most important organs in our body. In fact, many would argue that it is the most important part as it controls every function of the body. It also helps us process information and makes sense of the world around us.
The brain has the left and the right hemispheres which control different functions.;Researchers have studied hemispheres extensively to understand what are the functions of each of them.;Right brain characteristics are under the most scrutiny because it deals with components of human that are lesser-known: our emotions and creativity.
In this article, we will focus on right-brain characteristics. Well explore what it means to be a right-brained person. And more importantly, how you can improve the right side of your brain for knowledge, skills, and talents.
How To Develop Your Right Brain
People can change their approach to life and train their brain functioning. ; You can train your brain. Its important to learn how to unleash its potential and develop certain skills to make the most out of the 10% of the brain that we have access to. When you exercise your brain, you become a fast learner and enhance your productivity.
If knowledge is power, learning is your superpower.
Here are three sets of exercises that you can do to improve your right brain:

What Are The Differences Between The Left Brain And Right Brain
Many neuroscientists consider the concept of purely left-brain vs right-brain characteristics a myth. There are numerous theories and concepts that exist to explain how the right and left hemispheres of the human brain function. Many of which, have merits, and limitations.
Researchers Michael Gazzaniga and Roger Sperry proposed the concept of lateralization. In lateralization the left hemisphere and right hemispheres of the brain have very different functions, but they communicate with each other through their physical connections. An example of lateralization is language. For most people language function is located in the left hemisphere of the brain, particularly for right-handed people. The foundation for this split-brain theory often is based on research that has been performed on patients who had their right and left hemispheres of their brain surgically disconnected to treat severe epilepsy. Split-brain theory describes the left side of the brain as giving rational orders to the right side of the brain, and the right hemisphere as giving emotionally based commands.
Brain lateralization occurs in certain brain functions. In brain lateralization, certain regions of the brain perform specific functions. Many recent studies have shown that the right and left halves of the brain mostly are used equally, which shows the functional and physical connections between both the right and left hemispheres of the brain.
Right Cerebral Hemisphere: The Creative Side Of The Brain
One of the traits associated with workplace success is creativity as it is linked to innovation.
In fact, the right hemisphere of the brain controls creativity, imagination, and intuition, giving you the ability to visualize and interpret reality. It helps people to look at the bigger picture so they can better assess problems and come up with innovative strategies to solve them.
Moreover, the right side of the brain contributes to emotional intelligence the ability to understand ourselves and be empathetic towards others.
Those who develop emotional intelligence are able to master interpersonal relationships, a vital skill for managers.

A More Holistic Picture
But lateralization isnt the whole story. Even in language: stroke or injury to the right side of the brain commonly impairs the ability to understand the emotional aspects of speech carried by intonation and phrasing. To understand language fully, then, requires both sides of the brain, working together.
The hemispheres, after all, are not truly separate: communication between them is enabled by commissural fibers, broad white matter tracts through which a constant traffic of neural messages pass from side to side. The most prominent of these is the corpus callosum, but smaller commissural tracts connect the hemispheres as well.
Beyond the implications of gross anatomy, our increasingly nuanced view of lateralization reflects a more general evolution in our understanding of how the brain works: while some basic functions can reasonably be localized to modules or specific regions , more complex functions, such as the cognitive capacities popularly associated with the right and left hemisphere, are better explained in terms of networks that may spread across large areas of the brain.

Browse through a list of history’s most famous left-handers and you are likely to see Albert Einstein’s name. You may even see people tying Einstein’s genius to his left-handedness. The problem is, Einstein’s left-handedness is a myth. Myriad photos show him writing on a chalkboard with his right hand, for example.
But handedness has its roots in the brainright-handed people have left-hemisphere-dominant brains and vice versaand the lefties who claim Einstein weren’t all that far off. While he was certainly right-handed, autopsies suggest his brain didn’t reflect the typical left-side dominance in language and speech areas. His brain’s hemispheres were more symmetricala trait typical of left-handers and the ambidextrous.
Brain hemisphere specialist Michael Corballis, PhD, a psychologist at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, points out that having the hemispheres manage different tasks might increase the brain’s efficiency.
“There’s an advantage to cerebral dominance because it localizes function to one hemisphere,” he says. “Otherwise, information has to cross back and forth across the corpus callosum, and that can sometimes cause problems.”
Researchers used to think that minor brain damage early in development caused left-handedness, he notes.

Can You Be Both Right And Left Brained
So, apparently everyone at work has decided that I know everything.; ; ;
Its kind of funny, really, because whenever someone is curious about something, they say, I bet;kegger knows!; Whether its how to pronounce a name or how to spell something, or some profound religious question, I always get asked the random questions.;
Today, I was asked, What makes people left handed?; This kind of caught me off guard, because I thought everyone knew about genetics.;;I mean, didnt everyone learn about genetics in 7th grade, or was that just me?; Granted, I did have Mrs. Beckham for science, and she was completely and totally obsessed with genetics, but still.; ; I thought genetics were pretty common sense.; Of course, the lady that was asking me this was in her 40s and genetics might not have been such a big deal back then, who knows.; So anyway, I start going in to the whole dominant and recessive trait things and I tell her that someone in her family must have a left hand, either her mom or her dad, if she does and then I go on to tell her that if shes left handed, shes usually right brained.;
So, because I was curious about that, I googled Left and right brain tests and I took one.;
And sure enough, Im kind of both, even though Im more one than the other.; Usually people are more to the left or right and less in the middle, from what Ive heard:;;;

The Left Brain/right Brain Theory:
We all know that our brain is divided into parts left hemisphere and right hemisphere . Ideally, each side of the brain controls different types of thinking patterns. However, we as homo sapiens allow one part to dominate over the other by choosing a particular thinking pattern.
But wait! Does that mean only one side of your brain is handling all the bodily functions?
The answer to it is a NO!
As mentioned above one side of the brain will dominate the other thus, classifying you as a left-brain thinker or the right one. However, this does not imply that only that side of the brain is functional for you. In fact, as a science writer, Carl wrote
No matter how lateralized the brain can get, though, the two sides still work together
To put it in simple words, one side of the brain may dominate the other, however, they still work as a whole brain!
Quick Fact: Math skills are found to be the strongest in the ones who have both sides working equally!
So are there any specific characteristics associated with these sides of the brain?
Yes, perhaps the dual nature of your brain comes into play! Let us explore what left brain vs right brain has to offer to you

Here Are Some Faqs On Left Brain Vs Right Brain Theory:
1. Can a person be both left and right brained?
YES! You can be both left and right brained person. Even the test What do you see first gives the interpretation of you are both- left and right brained person. Depending on a situation demand either part of your brain dominates.
2. Do right and left brain see different colors?
Well, its a maybe situation here. There are various color perception images out there claiming that the color you see predicts which part of brain is dominates your thinking pattern. However, no one can really vouch for these ideas.
3. What jobs are good for right brain thinkers?
Some of the job profile that best fits the right brainers are: Managers
5. Which brain dominant is best?
While the right-brain dominance ensures that you are best at expressive and creative tasks. On the other hand, the left-brain dominance is reflected in your verbal and analytical aspects of life. This makes one point clear that both brain dominance have its own perks to offer. So, irrespective of the fact which brain dominates you it is at its best. No good, better, best comparison cannot be made here.
The theory of left-brain vs right-brain holds true only up to an extent! Recent research has found that this theory may be a myth!
To put it in a nutshell, the concept of left-brain vs right brain is better used in the form of a figure of speech than an anatomical description.
