What Does It Mean If You Are Right Or Left
Has your eye doctor ever told you that youre right-eye or left-eye dominant? You may have held up your hands in a triangle shape or used mirrors to determine which eye is dominant.
Many people believe that one of their eyes is stronger than the other, and that their dominant eye affects their performance in sports, photography, and other activities. In fact, several sports organizations encourage their athletes to adjust their performance based on their dominant eyefor example, pitchers in baseball and golfers may favor one side of their bodies over the other. However, new scientific research indicates that you may not have a permanently dominant eye, and eye dominance may not even affect your daily life.
Professor Brendan Barrett of the University of Bradford in the UK recently evaluated peer-reviewed studies on eye dominance and found a surprising lack of verifiable evidence of this phenomenon. Barrett reviewed the eye dominance tests used in previous studies, and he found that the hand used by participants in these tests significantly impacted the results. In fact, the results of these eye dominance tests were no more accurate than assigning a dominant direction by chance! Barretts results were similar to those published in 2015 in the scientific Journal of Vision, which found that eye dominance seems to vary depending on the type and timing of tests conducted.
Exercises To Improve Your Left Brain
- Mental exercises: Since the left side of the brain is better with words and numbers, simple brain games and exercises such as Sudoku and crossword puzzles can help improve these skills.
- Physical exercises: Exercising the right side of your body will stimulate the left side of your brain , so simple exercises like breathing through one nostril can awaken your brain.
- Listening to music: A 2008 study on music and brain activity has shown that listening to music can improve verbal and memory skills.
So, no matter how good we are in specific parts of our talents granted by either side of the brain, finding a balance between the two can help unleash the full potential of our minds.
Bonus Advice: Integrate The 4 Building Blocks Of Productivity
Just as important to productivity planners as the tool are the principles that we create inside of. There are 4 building blocks of productivity, that when embraced, accelerate your energy and results.
The four building blocks of productivity are desire, strategy, focus and rhythm. When you get these right, having a productivity planner or journal provides the structure to keep you on track.
Block #1: Desire
Somehow in the pursuit of all our goals, we accumulate ideas and To-Dos were not actually passionate about and dont really want to pursue. They sneak their way in and steal our focus from the things that really matter.
Underneath powerful productivity is desire. Not many little desires, but the overarching mother of desires. The desire you feel in your gut, the desire that comes from your soul, not your logic, is what you need to tap into if you want to level up your productivity.
A productivity planner is just a distraction if youre not clear on what its all for. With desire, however, your productivity planner provides the guide rails to accomplish your intentions.
Block #2: Strategy
Once youre clear on your overarching desire, you need to organize your steps to get there. Lets call this strategy. Strategy is like assembling a jigsaw puzzle. You must first turn over all the pieces to see patterns, colors, connections and find borders.

Why Is It Rare To Be Left
In reality, one of the vital more ordinary hypotheses to provide an explanation for the rarity of left-handedness is that a genetic mutation in our distant past led to the language centres of the human brain to shift to the left hemisphere, effectively causing right-handedness to dominate, Alasdair Wilkins explains for io9 again in 2011.

Left Brain Versus Right Brain
The majority of people are left brain dominant. Although the typical school environment in modern times tends to favor left brain thinkers with expectations of logical thought and practical action, right brain thinkers who tend to be more imaginative and outside the box are equally valuable. Interestingly, right brain dominant people are often left-handed which coincides with right brain dominant people being less common .

- Practice mindful listening to help during lecturesdon’t let your mind wander off.
- Talent and great instincts are not enough on their own. Try to complete things and practice finishing everything you start.
Are All Right Brain Dominant People Also Right-Handed?
As we mentioned above, 70-90% of people are right-handed, and it is mainly because of their genetics. Therefore the handedness of a person cannot be related to the dominance of any brain hemisphere.

Mixing Fact With Fiction
Its true each hemisphere of the brain controls different functions, but this fact doesnt relate to personality. The misleading idea of left vs. right brained people originates from science and has become fictionalized over time.
Take TheStrange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, for example. Robert Louis Stevensons fictional characters represented the duality of human nature and explored the idea of a logical left brain competing with an emotional right brain .
People love to learn about their own psychology, and they crave definitive answers. We love classification schemes like astrology, Myers-Briggs and endless personality quizzes, even though, according to Inc., calling yourself left brained or right brained is totally meaningless.
How To Make Good Use Of Left Brain Characteristics
If you have left-brain tendencies you know that some of the characteristics listed above can be used to your advantage. You can choose a career that corresponds with these strengths, or you can choose a learning path that will help you expand upon them and further develop mathematical and scientific reasoning. Dont be afraid to go the opposite direction having some left-brain traits doesnt stop you from pursuing right-brain activities and learning other strengths.

Children With Weakened Left Brain Function Are Imaginative And Social But May Struggle Academically In A Traditional Classroom Environment
Our brains consist of two sides or hemispheres. Children with behavioral, academic, social, or other challenges often have an imbalance in hemispheric brain communication – what we refer to as functional disconnection syndrome, or where one hemisphere is processing information too slowly. This causes one side of the brain to be stronger, while the other side develops more slowly and is weaker.
The right hemisphere of the brain controls sensory processing and expression. Children who are left brain weak are often very visual, spontaneous, emotional and intuitive but may struggle academically with memorizing facts and paying attention to details.
Forget The Right Vs Left Myth: Youre Whole
So, if were left-brained, were more literal and, if were right-brained were more creative. Is it true?
Is it really that simple?
As you might expect, the brain isnt that simple. If you used only half of your brain, you wouldnt be able to function properly. For example, the right frontal lobe largely controls the left half of your bodys movementdamage to the right frontal lobe can therefore result in partial or full paralysis of the left side of the body.
Indeed, most of our brain functions all the time, but some areas function more at certain times than others.
These ideas interest me because my expertise is in cognitive changes that can occur secondary to medical events and conditions. My primary area of interest is in adults with brain tumors, but I also see patients with conditions such as Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease, epilepsy and multiple sclerosis.
I evaluate their performance on standardized measures in comparison to other adults in their age range to determine whether decline has occurred. Then I help figure out why those changes occurred and what patients can do to maximize their everyday functioning and quality of life.
How does the brain work?
The right and left hemispheres communicate significantly via a few different very well-established connections. That communication across hemispheres allows us to function at our best.

Left Brain Vs Right Brain
Left-brained people are supposed to be logical, analytical, and methodical, while right-brained people are supposed to be creative, disorganized, and artistic. But this left-brain / right-brain theory has been refuted by a large-scale, two-year study by researchers at the University of Utah. In other words, it is untrue that logical people predominantly use the left side of the brain and artistic people predominantly use the right. All people use both halves of the brain. However, the stereotypes associated with being left- or right-brained persist and continue to arouse curiosity.
This comparison explains some myths and facts about the topic and compares what are now only metaphors of left-brained and right-brained personality types.
Right Cerebral Hemisphere: The Creative Side Of The Brain
One of the traits associated with workplace success is creativity as it is linked to innovation.
In fact, the right hemisphere of the brain controls creativity, imagination, and intuition, giving you the ability to visualize and interpret reality. It helps people to look at the bigger picture so they can better assess problems and come up with innovative strategies to solve them.
Moreover, the right side of the brain contributes to emotional intelligence the ability to understand ourselves and be empathetic towards others.
Those who develop emotional intelligence are able to master interpersonal relationships, a vital skill for managers.

Are There Really Right
Are you a logical, precise thinker, or would you say that youre more free-spirited and artistic? If youre the former, somebodys probably told you at some point that youre a left-brained person, and if youre the latter, right-brained. The notion that the right half of the brain is the creative half and the left half is the analytical half and that our individual traits are determined by which half is dominant is widespread in popular psychology. Theres even a small industry devoted to this idea. There are self-help books, personality tests, therapies, and educational materials that claim to help you optimize the functions of the stronger half of your brain, get in touch with the weaker half, or even make the two halves stop their incessant battling inside your skull so you can finally get some peace and quiet.
Brain Process And Functions
The left hemisphere of the brain processes information analytically and sequentially. It focuses on the verbal and is responsible for language. It processes from details into a whole picture. The left hemisphere’s functions include order and pattern perception as well as creating strategies. The left hemisphere controls the muscles on the right side of the body.
The right hemisphere of the brain processes information intuitively. It focuses on the visual and is responsible for attention. It processes from the whole picture to details. The right hemisphere’s functions include spatial perception and seeing possibilities in situations. The right hemisphere controls the muscles on the left side of the body.

Your Classes And Your Brain
Right-brain dominant students experience school differently than their left-brained counterparts, often favoring certain subjects over others. The following descriptions are accurate for most right-brained students.
- History: You enjoy the social aspects of history classes most. You like to explore the effects of events that happened in history and you don’t mind writing essays about them.
- Math: You can do well in math class if you apply yourself, but you get bored when answering long, complex problems. Don’t let yourself shut down when you don’t know the answerskeep at it! You’ll be great with math with enough practice.
- Science: Studying science is boring at first, but you grow increasingly intrigued the more you learn. You like to find answers to open-ended questions but don’t care for using scientific equations and formulas.
- English: You do well in English class, especially when it comes to reading literature and writing essays about books. You also do well in creative writing assignments. Strong grammar skills may come naturally to you.
Do Left Handers Have A Higher Iq
While there are curious variations between lefties and righties, the next intelligence degree most probably isnt certainly one of them. Many studies show combined effects when inspecting this complicated link, main researchers to conclude that left-handed persons are no smarter than their right-handed opposite numbers.

The Origin Of The Left
In the 1960s, these initial observations exploded both into the scientific literature and in the public sphere when some impressive experiments were performed. It was during this decade that researchers including Roger Sperry and Michael Gazzaniga were experimenting to find ways to treat severe epilepsy.
There was a class of patients whose seizures resisted treatments like psychotherapy and psychotherapeutic drugs. No matter the treatment, these people would have frequent and debilitating seizures. It was no way to live.
Gazzaniga and Sperry and others explored additional treatments. One treatment was to sever the part of the brain that connected the right and left hemispheres. That part of the body that connects the two sides of a healthy brain is called the corpus callosum. In these surgeries, surgeons simply cut the corpus callosum, turning what was once a single operating brain essentially into two separate ones. The whole prospect may have given others the creeps, but the surgeons had some success in treating epilepsy, so surgeries were performed.
It was from studies like this that scientists became aware of some of the regional differences present in the functioning of the brain. In fact, there is an absolutely fascinating body of scientific work done by studying these split-brain individuals. Actually, the study of how specific brain damage affects the abilities of individuals is incredibly interesting.

Historical And Religious Views Of Humanity
Humans are an introspective species, one might even say self-absorbed. It has long been believed that humanity is effectively at the center of the universe, whether because of the early geocentric ideas of Ptolemy or simply because humans are thought better than other species. It is an idea that even enters into some religions.
The Christian Bible does say that humans were to have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over the Earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the Earth.

Left Brain Dominant Or Right Brain Dominant How Does It Affect The Studies
What does it mean to be left brain dominant or right brain dominant? Scientists have explored theories about the two hemispheres of the brain and the ways that they differ in function and control of the body. According to recent research, people who are right brain dominant and those who are left brain dominant process information and respond in different ways.
Most theories suggest that right-brain dominant people are guided by the more emotional, intuitive right hemisphere while left-brain people respond in sequential, logical ways, guided by the left hemisphere.
Traits Of The Right Hemisphere Of The Brain
Creative kids tend to be right-brained, and when in learning situations they prefer to:
- Be shown rather than told how to do a task.
- Solve problems by looking at similarities and patterns.
- Draw rather than write.
- Answer open-ended questions rather than multiple choice tests.
- Discuss topics.
- Assimilate whole chunks of information rather than break them down into discrete facts.
